The Research and Development Tax Incentive (R&D Tax Incentive or R&DTI) encourages companies to conduct research and development (R&D) activities to generate knowledge for the benefit of the Australian economy. The Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources (the department), on behalf of Innovation and Science Australia (ISA), administers the R&D Tax Incentive with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). The R&DTI is a targeted tax offset program. It offers a refundable tax offset for R&D entities with an annual turnover under $20 million. A non-refundable tax offset is available to R&D entities with an annual turnover of more than $20 million. The R&DTI supports eligible R&D activities you conduct in Australia. It may also support eligible R&D you conduct overseas.
